Speckled Sussex
This English Heavy breed was developed in Sussex County, England more than 100 years ago. Cocks
weigh about nine pounds at maturity and hens seven pounds. For these reasons, along with their pink
skin, these birds are said to make excellent table fowl. I have found these birds to be calm and
personable as well as good layers of light brown or tinted eggs, which you can see under the hen to the
bottom left. These birds are are a wonderful combination of utility and beauty and can be a great
choice for a show bird.
